WAM Tech Talks 4.0 - Interview with Dr. Yves Hagedorn
1. Could you briefly tell us about Aconity3D’s mission and core technology pillars?
At Aconity3D, our mission is to drive innovation in Additive Manufacturing by developing state-of-the-art and next-generation laser-based 3D printing systems. Our technology is built on a modular and fully configurable platform, which allows us to support both established industrial processes and highly customized applications at an attractive performance-to-cost ratio.
One of our core pillars is flexibility - our open system architecture gives users complete control over all process parameters, from automated production to full research access. Combined with our comprehensive hardware portfolio, hands-on training, and tailored feasibility studies, we make advanced metal Additive Manufacturing accessible to start-ups, SMEs, and large industry leaders alike.
2. Which specific technologies, systems and demonstrations will Aconity3D be showcasing at WAM Saudi?
As we want to showcase our broad product portfolio, we will be presenting the AconityX as an example of an LPBF system. The AconityX is our machine concept designed for efficient and scalable industrial LPBF production. To highlight versatility of the LPBF Technology we will also display build platforms in various sizes. Furthermore, as we are not just a machine manufacturer - we also offer a wide range of application services at our on-site Application Center. Therefore, we will present demonstrators printed in different materials to showcase the variety of applications we can handle. Additionally, we will feature our dedicated wire-based system, the AconityWIRE. We will present the machine head, demonstrate some applications, and, of course, showcase additional demonstrators.
3. How does Aconity3D bridge the gap between research and practical industrial applications?
At Aconity3D we constantly push the limits of technological feasibility. At this we are the leading provider of cutting-edge equipment for highly renowned research entities as well as the most innovative industrial corporations around the globe. Hence, at Aconity3D, bridging the gap between research and industrial application goes hand in hand. Before any technology reaches the market, it must first be thoroughly explored and validated through research. Since we design and build machines both for industrial use and for research institutions, we are actively involved in every stage - from the very first idea to the final market-ready product.
This unique position allows us to continuously integrate the latest scientific findings into practical, production-oriented solutions. Not only is our machine portfolio highly versatile, but so is our greatest asset - our team. With their diverse expertise, we can create tailor-made
systems for every customer and application, ensuring optimal performance in terms of sustainability, cost efficiency, and technological innovation.
4. How do you see metal additive manufacturing transforming key industries such as aerospace, energy, and healthcare in the coming years?
Metal additive manufacturing is fundamentally transforming key industries by driving sustainability, innovation, and efficiency. Additive manufacturing is inherently a sustainable production method, as it generates very little material. Sustainability driven by efficiency has become a central value across all sectors and aspects of life, and additive manufacturing perfectly aligns with this global shift.
In healthcare, additive manufacturing already is a true key technology with huge market potential for the future. It enables the production of highly individualized implants and prosthetics that are not only customized to the patient’s anatomy but can also be manufactured from biocompatible materials. This allows the body to integrate them naturally, reducing the need for costly and risky follow-up surgeries or anesthesia.
In aerospace, weight and precision are essential. Additive manufacturing allows for lightweight, complex, and functionally optimized components that cannot be produced with conventional methods - leading to increased fuel efficiency and reduced emissions. Furthermore, with Additive Manufacturing AI-supported design of Rocket engines becomes reality, which further pushes time-to-market, efficiency and availability of components for this vastly growing market.
In the energy sector, Additive Manufacturing supports development of high-performance components for turbines and other energy systems, improving durability and thermal efficiency. This contributes directly to more sustainable, reliable und thus, cheaper energy generation, whether in conventional or renewable systems.
Overall, metal additive manufacturing is not just revolutionizing production - it’s reshaping entire industries toward a more sustainable, innovative and efficient future.
5. How does Aconity3D collaborate with industry and government partners to accelerate technology adoption?
At Aconity3D we don’t just have customers, we have partners. We strongly believe that strong partnerships with aligned visions towards a sustainable future are key for true Innovation. At this, Aconity3D brings unmatched technological expertise in LPBF to the table, while our partners with in-depth understanding of their individual market segments define necessities of each individual application. Thus, these partnerships allow for constantly pushing the limits of what’s possible by providing superior solutions to both, known and new applications, yet to come.
6. What are Aconity3D’s main objectives for participating in WAM Saudi?
Our main objectives for participating in WAM Saudi are to enter new markets, particularly in Saudi Arabia, and to spotlight additive manufacturing technologies, showing that they offer a sustainable and cost-effective alternative to traditional manufacturing methods. Additionally, we aim to strengthen collaborations and partnerships with local industry players and governmental institutions, fostering innovation and knowledge exchange in the region.
7. How can event participants and stakeholders best engage with Aconity3D during and after the event?
During the event, we warmly invite participants to visit our booth H1-D25 - we are always happy to welcome visitors and make new connections. After the event, we remain available via email for any questions or follow-ups. To stay up to date, participants are also welcome to follow our social media accounts. Additionally, next year we will host an exclusive in-house exhibition, where we will showcase our broad product portfolio in even more detail.
